Transparent Technology : Optical Stimulation

I found an article about a new technology called Optical Stimulation. I think it relates to my project nicely because it involves the stimulation of nerves within living animals, which I have come across in my research. The stimulation of nerves to produce specific muscle movements in humans and animals, particularly in the face, is a practice that dates back to Darwin’s time.
Using millisecond pulses of light, neurons are stimulated in an unprecedentedly precise way. The hope is to eventually utilize this new technology to treat patients of stroke, palsies, ALS, and other neuromuscular disorders. In regard to my project, Optical Stimulation would be a useful research tool.
