Professional Practices – Assistant Teaching – Week 9

Class this week was structured as usual, beginning with 2-minute sketches and then going back into the longer drawing continued from last week. Ernie seemed to focus this class on the “elements of light”, which he has broken down into seven parts. These are 1) Highlight, 2)Light, 3)Middle, 4)Dark, 5) Reflected Light, 6) Cast Shadow, and 7) Negative Space. He then went a step further and broke each of these 7 down into 3 parts. These 3 parts can either be Light, Medium, Dark or Foreground, Middle, and Background. He then showed the students how to apply these principles to the figure within their drawings.
