Lea is an artist and designer also based in Columbus, and her class was fun, informative and instructive. As I have been working almost exclusively with paper over the summer, I have experimented with different ways to manipulate it. This includes ripping, carving into the paper’s surface, and folding. After trying different visual effects out on the paper by folding or tearing, the eventual goal is to be able to control the effects that the materials create on the paper. To this end, a basic understanding of Origami and the possibilities it offers my art has interested me for a while. Lea’s class was a great way to be introduced to Origami, primarily through doing it yourself (following her instruction). In the end, I had a few pieces to bring home with me, some of which are pictured below:
